教授自身が初版のさい入れたがっていた挿画なんだけど果たせず、残念がっていた、とは、『トールキンによる『指輪物語』の図像世界』でも触れられています。
アマゾンジャパンのレビューによると、トールキン研究者にしてこの『トールキンによる『指輪物語』の図像世界』の原書"J.R.R.Tolkien:Artist and illustrater"の著者、Wayne G. Hammond, Cristina Scullが校閲を担当。追補編のホビット家系図にボルジャーとボフィンの追加があるなど、多少の異同はあるモヨウ。
またブルー系装丁のUS版に対して赤茶のUK版もあります。こちらは 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition、定価100ポンド(アマゾンUKだと70ポンド)、アマゾンジャパンでも１万７千円(汗。……UKから買ったほうが安いかも。いや買えませんが。
